Another Year…

It’s been so long since I’ve written, sorry about that. Once I didn’t have to write a regular post, I didn’t.

Now Uni is finished for another year, exams done, marks released, and Summer Holidays officially on. What a great feeling. Pretty much I have 3 months break from the choas and stress of balancing work, uni and life.

As we approach Christmas and New Year I start to start thinking about what has happened throughout the last year and what I’m gonna plan to do better or differently next year, it usually comes back to being more organised and not leaving things to the last minute, one of these years it will actually happen!

Another year has passed and it feels as though it has gone way too quickly, time seems to rush by and leaves very little time to let us enjoy life, something we don’t really do much to stop.

Have a good Christmas, God Bless :)

Three ways to respond

This week’s reading was on how to respond in an essay to help form an arguement. There are three ways to respond they are Yes, No, Okay, but… Each of these ways helps present a particular stance in an essay.

The easiest way to respond is to say no or disagree, by finding faults in the arguement and bringing contridictorary evidence. A more difficult way is to say Yes, or to agree. This is harder because one needs to agree but not repeat the same arguement, new ideas need to be presented. The final way to respond is to say Okay, but consider this idea. It may mean writers are in two minds and has evidence for both sides of the discussion.

In short we can say Yes, No, Okay, but… to an arguement and each has its own difficulties but we must always support any arguement with references :)

A gift for life…

The Australian Red Cross Blood Service supplies blood each week to Australians who need regular blood transfusions for diseases such as cancer, rare immune deficiencies. Each week the Blood bank requires 26,000 donations to enable them to continue providing the valuable service it does. The actual process isn’t all that difficult, a few questions, a finger prick to test haemoglobin, then the actual donation. A process which takes about an hour but can actually give the gift of life to three people. A small price to pay for such an amazing gift!

Please consider becoming a donor and encorage your families and friends to do so as well. For more information visit www.donateblood.com.au or call 13 14 95

Everybody and Anybody…

Earlier this week it dawned on me how impersonal and public our lives actually are. We really can not say or do things without someone else knowing. Now I know this is a huge exaggeration for as I write this there are many people, myself included, saying “I can have a private life!” What I am more so referring to is the role of social networking sites in our contemporary society. Take Facebook for example, it has over a million users and is suppose to connect people around the world. What I find is a little bit daunting is that anything I post on it can be seen by all the people I have as “friends” (even so that term should be applied very loosely).  What type of society do we live in when I can post something I feeling and almost 400 people can see and comment on that? Or any event in my life is broadcast in the same manner? I had almost 60 people wish me Happy Birthday on Monday via Facebook and more than half of them I wouldn’t have normally seen or spoken to!

So in a society which relies more on the use of social networking sites as a means of connecting and sharing with others, how much of our lives are actually private when anyone and everyone can access them at a click of a mouse?!?

Instant Essay

These words may be the ones that every student dreams of hearing. How to write an essay in a few simple steps. It almost sounds to good to be true, but its not. I’ve even managed to write an essay which only needs to be proof read. And the best bit was I did it in less than an hour!

The essay itself is about redesigning the university campus and why it should be done and what changes would be made. There aren’t any references or solid eveidentary support for my views but there is at least a page of writing. The key to writing a good essay is using language that isn’t beyond your readers but also using guiding sentences which not only guide your thoughts but also ensure your readers or on the same track and don’t make mulitple meanings from your work.

It’s that easy! :)

This week in ARW…

This week’s reading was information on another blog about something called Triage grammar. I have read it and found myself more confused than when I started. I felt the idea of the post was not explained clearly and therefore made it an unsatisfying read. I do believe, that the main arguement was that there are a number of commonly confused rules and words in the English language which make writing hard as it requires skill to decipher all the codes and correct usage. Even the best writers can still make mistakes especially with a language as complicated as English.

In other news, we completed a In class referencing task last Thursday which required us to know three refernecing styles, Harvard, Chicargo and MLA. That may not seem too difficult but when they are similar to each other everything starts to blur into one (and even moreso when there is a rushed revision/read up of each style the night before…a habit I must break :) ). On the flipside, I did pass and the test was easier-ish than I expected; all’s well that ends well I suppose.

Until the next installment,

Nadine :)

Where were you???

I am currently watching a show called “9/11 State of Emergency” and it posed the question, “Where were you on September 11, 2001?”.  It’s been nine years since that horrible morning, one in which I was awoken by my Dad telling me to come see what was on the news. And as I watched the terror of the America unfold, I remember watching the news footage and seeing the second plane hit the South Tower. What a frightening image it was!

Since that day and the subsequent attacks that America suffered, the “War on Terror” has been a part of our society. We have been part of that fight, one which some believe is futile while others believe it is the solution.  Wherever you stand on the issue comes down to the information you know and how you feel.

But the most repeated question that comes to mind when it comes to September 11, 2001 is “where were you when it all happened???”
